Named for founder Alexander Macleod. Formally known as Priest 's Mills, in honor of Rt. Reverend Alexander Macdonell, the chaplain of the regiment of Glengarry Fencibles(many from regiment came to this county in 1803) Macdonnel was the first Roman Catholic Bishop of Upper Canada. He died in Scotland and was buried in Kingston.
